The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board successfully concluded a capacity-building training on Effective Environmental Health and Safety Strategies on Friday, 10th July 2026, bringing together Medical Officers of Health (MOHs) and Environmental Health Officers from across the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
Representing the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, the Director of Environmental Health Services Dr. Temple Akagbue reaffirmed the Board's commitment to strengthening environmental health systems through continuous capacity building, effective disease prevention strategies, and the provision of essential tools to support frontline health workers.
The training focused on strengthening participants' knowledge and skills in environmental health surveillance, infection prevention and control, vector control, outbreak preparedness, and other evidence-based strategies and demonstrations essential for promoting healthier and safer communities.
As part of efforts to enhance environmental health interventions at the grassroots, manual sprayers were distributed to all 23 LGAs, providing frontline teams with essential tools to support vector control activities, environmental sanitation, and rapid public health response where needed.
This initiative reinforces the commitment of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board through the leadership of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Chituru Adele, to building a resilient Primary Health Care system through continuous capacity development and the provision of critical equipment for frontline health workers.
