Report on One Day Orientation Meeting on SOPs Manual for Pharmaceutical Services

The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board developed and distributed the inaugural edition of Standard Operating Procedures manuals for pharmaceutical services. Two orientation sessions occurred on August 21-22, 2024, training approximately 150 participants including pharmacists, technicians, and logistics coordinators from 23 local government areas. Key Attendees: Dr. Mrs. Nnesochi Offor represented the Executive Secretary, alongside the Director of Community Health Services, Director of Medical Services, and representatives from the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital. The Director of Pharmaceutical Services emphasized the manual was designed to streamline the routine activities and different process areas of pharmacy practice at the Primary Health Care level. Implementation promotes rational drug utilization, ensures consistent pharmaceutical service delivery, and enhances patient outcomes. Training Topics Covered: - Rational medicine dispensing and prescription evaluation - Management and disposal of expired/damaged pharmaceuticals - Essential medicine storage standards - Inventory control and documentation practices Resolutions Established: Participants agreed to maintain manual copies in all pharmacy units, implement newly introduced documentation forms, prioritize storage guidelines, prepare timely requisitions, and source all medications exclusively through the Central Medical Stores.
