The Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board (RSPHCMB) has successfully presented the revitalised Woji Model Primary Health Centre, further demonstrating the Board’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare service delivery.
The event also marked the flag-off of a two-day free medical outreach, organised to provide residents of Woji and neighbouring communities with access to essential healthcare services.
Beneficiaries received free medical consultations, basic health screenings, health education and other critical services aimed at improving community health outcomes.
Present at the event were the Hon. Commissioner for Health, ably represented by the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Justina Jumbo, the Board Chairman, Dr. Dawari George and Members of the Board, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Chituru Adele alongside Directors of the Board, reflecting the collective leadership and oversight of the Board in advancing functional and people-centred primary healthcare facilities.
Also present at the event were the Obio Akpor LGA Chairman represented by his vice, Dr. Nyeche, chiefs of the host community, whose participation underscored the importance of collaboration between the Board, local authorities and community stakeholders in achieving sustainable healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary noted that the revitalisation of the Woji Model Primary Health Centre aligns with the Board’s mandate to ensure that primary healthcare facilities are adequately equipped, accessible and capable of meeting the health needs of the population as opposed to the deplorable state of the facility before he took over office. He also encouraged the local authority and residents to ensure it's optimal utilization as a doctor will be posted and resident there and emphasized the Boards readiness to maintain the standard and quality of the facility.
Also speaking at the event, the Board Chairman Dr. Dawari George described the revitalisation of the Woji Model Primary Health Centre as a clear demonstration of the Rivers State Government’s commitment to bringing quality healthcare closer to the people. He noted that functional primary healthcare facilities remain the foundation of a strong health system and commended the Board’s management for prioritising people-centred service delivery.
In her remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Health applauded the Board for the successful revitalisation of the facility and the medical outreach initiative. She stated that the administration is committed to ensuring that all primary healthcare centres across the state are upgraded to meet acceptable standards, adding that accessible and affordable healthcare remains a key priority of the government.
Also speaking, the representative of the host community expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government and the RSPHCMB for the revitalisation of the health centre. He described the facility as a long-awaited intervention that will significantly improve access to healthcare services in the area, while pledging the community’s support, protection and proper use of the facility.
The presentation and free medical outreach will continue tomorrow with the next stop at the Rukpoku Model Primary Health Centre, where residents are expected to benefit from similar healthcare services.
The presentations and outreach activities reaffirm the RSPHCMB’s unwavering commitment to improving health outcomes, reducing preventable diseases and strengthening confidence in the primary healthcare system across Rivers State.
