The Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board presentation and medical outreach train arrived Bundu-Ama Model Primary Health Centre for the presentation of the revitalised PHC and flag-off of a 2-day free medical outreach programme, drawing residents, health professionals and government officials together in a shared commitment to quality healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
The event was graced by the Honourable Commissioner for Health represented by the Permanent Secretary Dr. Justina Jumbo, the Mayor of Portharcourt Sir Hon. Allwell Ihunda and his entourage, the Board Chairman Dr. Dawari George and members of the board and the Executive Secretary, Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Chituru Adele and his management team.
Also at the event were development partners (WHO, UNICEF, NPHCDA) and traditional leaders whose attendance underscored the importance of collaborative governance in strengthening primary healthcare services.
As part of the programme, beneficiaries accessed free medical consultations, basic health screenings, health education and essential drugs, bringing much-needed relief and reassurance to residents of the Bundu-Ama community. Smiles, gratitude and visible satisfaction reflected the impact of taking healthcare directly to the people.
The Executive Secretary RSPHCMB Dr. Chituru Adele in his address urged the residents to fully utilise the facility for their primary health care needs as the facility has been fully revitalised including the provision of standby power supply.
Also, the Chairman of the Board Dr. Dawari George emphasised the community takes ownership of the facility and partake in it's day-to-day running and utilization.
In her address, the Honourable Commissioner emphasized the critical role of health workers in delivering people-centred care. She spoke passionately on the need for positive attitude to work, professionalism and compassion, noting that patients’ satisfaction remains a key measure of success in the healthcare system. According to her, health facilities must not only provide services but also ensure that patients are treated with dignity, empathy and respect.
The Mayor of Port Harcourt thanked the current Board Executives for their proactiveness in deliverying quality primary health care facilities and services urging the community to help in protecting the facilities in their domain.
Community leaders expressed appreciation to the State Government, the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board and partners for the intervention, describing the outreach as timely and impactful. They reaffirmed their support for initiatives aimed at improving health outcomes and strengthening trust between healthcare providers and the communities they serve.
The presentation and medical outreach at Bundu-Ama Model Primary Health Centre once again highlighted the government’s unwavering dedication to bringing quality, affordable and people-focused healthcare closer to the grassroots, while reinforcing the shared responsibility of leaders, health workers and communities in building a healthier Rivers State.
