The Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board announced the launch of an integrated vaccination campaign targeting two key populations.
The initiative addresses children aged 9 months to 5 years, inviting caregivers to ensure eligible youngsters receive measles vaccination during the October 12-18 campaign period.
Additionally, the board is extending HPV protection to girls aged 9-14 years who have not yet received Gardasil-4, described as a preventive measure against cervical cancer. This dual-focus approach aims to maximize health coverage across the state.
The campaign will utilize multiple access points: Primary Health Centres, some will be in temporary fixed posts (designated locations for this campaign), we will visit worship houses, we will be in all schools, in all LGAs of the State, simultaneously.
The stated objectives include establishing herd immunity against measles and protecting girls' reproductive futures through vaccination. The board framed vaccination as both a health right and community responsibility, emphasizing that these services are free and safe.
The announcement encouraged information sharing and parental participation in securing vaccinations for eligible children.
