Fubara Pledges to Prioritize Health Sector in 2025 Budget

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State announced his administration will substantially boost healthcare funding in the 2025 budget. Speaking at Government House in Port Harcourt during a World Health Organization (WHO) delegation meeting, he stated: in our 2025 budget, we have just three key areas; healthcare, education and agriculture. The governor criticized the condition of inherited health facilities and praised improvements made to the primary healthcare system under his leadership. He emphasized the importance of consistent resource allocation, noting: when we came onboard we ensure they get their resources on good time. Fubara highlighted ongoing initiatives including a health insurance program and strengthened primary healthcare management. He expressed confidence that significant health sector progress would be evident during WHO's next assessment visit. WHO Country Representative Kazadi Walter Molumbo commended the governor's commitment to advancing healthcare interventions supporting the Sustainable Development Goals through 2030.
