Jennifer welcomed her baby in the early hours of the morning at Tombia Primary Health Centre in Degema Local Government Area. As she focused on her newborn, another effort to improve healthcare was unfolding quietly around her.
Across Rivers State, the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board's second-quarter Integrated Supportive Supervision exercise was underway in all 23 Local Government Areas.
The exercise brought multidisciplinary teams to primary healthcare facilities to mentor frontline health workers, verify routine health data, identify operational gaps and support immediate corrective action.
In Degema, the team pressed on despite the rain. The Supportive team reviewed healthcare records. They documented Infrastructure needs while initiating follow-up actions.
A revitalised Primary Health Centre in Bukuma offered a glimpse of expanding access to quality healthcare in underserved communities.
The visits reinforced a simple truth: quality primary healthcare depends on committed health workers, reliable data and timely action.
To Jennifer and countless other mothers, these efforts may go unnoticed. But they will be reflected in safer deliveries, stronger health facilities and better care for families across Rivers State.
That is the true value of supportive supervision turning field observations into practical improvements that strengthen health systems and save lives.
