The training, held from 21st to 22nd October 2026 at Galaxy LA Palm Royal Resorts, was organized to strengthen community-level demand generation activities under the Discovering Innovation in Self-Care (DISC) 2.2 Project.
The training aimed to enhance participants' knowledge and capacity in the following key areas:
- Sayana Press: Strengthening participants' knowledge and understanding of Sayana Press as a self-injectable contraceptive option.
- Family Planning: Improving general knowledge of family planning methods, benefits, and service delivery.
- Effective Communication: Building participants' communication skills to promote better understanding, address misconceptions, and improve community acceptance of family planning services.
- Community-to-Facility Referrals: Strengthening referral linkages between communities and health facilities to improve access to and uptake of family planning services.
A total of 30 community mobilizers participated in the training, with over 70% female representation.
The training provided an opportunity to refresh participants' knowledge, strengthen their community engagement and interpersonal communication skills, and equip them with the necessary tools to effectively mobilize community members, generate demand, and facilitate referrals for increased uptake of family planning services across the 23 LGAs of Rivers State.
